juanb ,,there are many people here who attack christianity in general terms ,,although many Dominicans gain much comfort from the faith . I personally happen to believe that the New Testament contains so many wonderfully good messages that it is not proper to defame it . What I do not like is the manipulation of the people by the church . , especially the Roman Catholic church in poor and uneducated countries to induce people . The use of visions by the virgin by the poor , the refusal to combat AIDS by not encouraging the use of condoms , and the refusal to permit abortions even when they are the result of rape or incest are examples of what I detest .

yes,Roy ,some things are only ridiculous in the christian religion in your eyes . The adoration of the mother of Jesus is of great comfort to millions of people ..and there are many people who worship and pray and lead their daily life in a quiet and non contraversial wa .So why should you mock an old lady , for example,who is on her knees in a church praying that her daughter or son is safe and who asks for the mother of Jesus to interced for her .
I think your remaks are best better rewritten in a way that suggests that you do not find christianity of any use to you rather than mock those who find their faith very important . But you may enjoy offending others and think I have no right to even rebuke you ..I do not know

This Virgin de La Altagracia business was serious stuff in my house when I was growing up. Though we are of Dominican-Lebanese descent my granny would slap the f*** out of anybody who dared to disrespect La Virgin. She had recorded El Rosario and play that stuff everyday around 4 PM. The house was practically off-limits at that time. lololo

What evidence is there, that Jesus's mother was a virgin, or that Jesus even existed, other than the word of the Catholic Church? If, as the Holy Buy-Bull says, she was only 13, and impregnated by God, then He is a pedophile, and if her marriage to Joseph was not consummated, then Jesus was a bastard. Go figure.

Were she not in the deluded belief it may help,. she might do something else that may contribute to her daughter or son's safety.

The Duminican Republic can not return to being a colony, since it never really grew out of being one. Still it would love to be a member of the British Commonwealth and keeps gate-crashing or hosting their meetings, in the vain hope of being invited to join. Still it remains a de-facto dependency of the USA in more ways than one. Should I list them for you?

... and since most Duminican schoolchildren have almost no idea who Duarte , Sanchez and Mella are, a picture of QE2 might not be a bad idea. And where are the pictures of the most famous Dominican in the world, Trujillo?

If you like the New Testament then you have to thank none other than the Roman Catholic Church, for compiling it. Is this one of the bits you like? Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands before eating. He defends himself by attacking them for not killing disobedient children according to the commandment:
“He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.”

I fail to see what is so special about religious belief, that no matter how stupid, should be immune to criticism, while everything else is open slather. Perhaps without this immunity, it would have been laughed out of existence, centuries ago.

Jesus said:
