Jailed pop star won’t have to cut his dreadlocks for now

Santo Domingo.- Aaron Garib, warden of San Pedro’s (east) Correctional Center, where the popular singer Manuel Varet Marte (Vakero) was transferred Tuesday morning, affirmed that the detainee’s rights are guaranteed and respected until a court rules on his refusal to cut his dreadlock hair, as jail rules stipulate.

Varet’s lawyer Manuel Moquete provided the information on the accused, who’s been charged with violence against his wife, Latin American Idol winner Martha Heredia.

The challenge filed by the performer, who refused to cut his hair arguing religious reasons as a Rastafarian, will be heard by the San Pedro Criminal Court tomorrow.
