Santo Domingo.- Minority Al-País party president Guillermo Moreno on Thursday filed money laundering charges in the National District Office of the Prosecutor, against former president Leonel Fernandez.
Moreno’s complaint says Fernandez used the President of the country and of the Global Democracy and Development Foundation (Funglode) to control considerable amounts of taxpayers’ money to his advantage. "That’s a type of enrichment which violates the Constitution."
Prior to filing the charges the politician said Fernandez used his position to get as much as RD$1.0 million in kickbacks on public works contracts.
Moreno said there the kickbacks were as high as RD$21 million and that amount reached RD$41 million in just seven days.
The former presidential candidate added that substantial government donations were also received for Haiti’s reconstruction, in which senator Felix Bautista, Fernandez’s close collaborator, played an important role.
A previous complaint filed November 2012 by Moreno against Fernandez, Bautista and former Public Works minister Víctor Díaz, blaming them for the fiscal del deficit of RD$183.0 billon, was discarded by the Justice Ministry.

I cannot see that this has anything to do with Danilo he is neither a judge nor is he the Justice Minister .. . It is really a matter for the justice department to investigate if there is a case to answer .There would certainly need to be just a bit of evidence and some specifics given rather than a whole lot of inuendo .
It was suggested here in DT that past Presidents have some immunity against these sort of actions but I think that only relates to lack of judgement in decision making rather than actually stealing government money .
It would be interesting to see if any company will give evidence that they gave under the table payments to Leonel ..I have my doubts if any will come forward,.
So in the end, I imagine that many years further on , nothing will be proved and there will still be rumours flying around

I met and had brief conversations with Danilo and Leonel both, and I can assure that out of the two, Danilo is much more wiser, better planner, and has a better instincts to see the future, than Leonel had.
My gut feeling is that Danilo will come out smelling like a rose, and Leonel will be reaping the fruits of his many misgivings, and economic violence.

Just look at the notion that taking an expensive trip means you are taken to court , or being President when a church is deteriorating means facing charges ,,why not bring leonel to the International Courtin the Hague on these charges and see what the judges say . Just keep to the facts and it seems that the only charge is that he received money under the table..the amount here is mentioned as 1 million Dominican pesos ...that is US$ 25,000..

The shaved head associate or bodyguard on his right, is wearing expensive (over $1K US) Cartier eyeglasses, and expensive ties, shirts and suits.
The statements that Mr. Moreno recited where void of any specifics on direct culpability by LF, just an "assumed" one, and will not be able to travel far, in the DR justice system.
The point is that one has to establish a direct correlation between LF, and the donors to Foundation, and that link does not exist, and putting the dots together, will be an impossible task.
