Santo Domingo.-  Supreme Court Justice Hirohito Reyes on Friday retired to chambers to deliberate on a challenge to prosecution filed by senator Amble Aristy, in the Justice Ministry’s accusation that he embezzled more than RD$1.0 billion, to distribute among close collaborators.

Reyes set another hearing to hand down the ruling at 10am February 8, after hearing the prosecution’s motion and rebuttal by attorneys for the La Altagracia province lawmaker.

At the hearing, Aristy’s lawyers Ramon Pina Acevedo, Julio Cury, Marino Felix and Ramon Nuñez motioned the court for acquittal, claiming the Accounts Chamber’s final audit found no discrepancy with the Anti-Corruption Dept.’s (DPCA) conclusions from the probe.

Prosecutors Casilda Baez and DPCA deputy director Laura Guerrero asked the court to reject Aristy’s objection to the Nov. 12, in which the Justice minister Francisco Dominguez’s order to resume the investigation, reverting DPCA director Hotoniel Bonilla’s instructions to seal the case.

That is atotal lot of nonsense,,Aristy was placed in his powerful position by the votes of the various councils and his appointment was publicly opposed by LF .Even in the last national elections the PRD won the bulk of the local councils and so the power base of Aristy was most certainly not the national government

You had better read how some history.Apart from his rise from relative poverty to great wealth in the Higuey District ,under contraversial ways,,,his main position since 1999 has been as Secretary General of La Liga de Municipal Dominicana. In this position he was the middle man who dished out the money from the Central Government to the various councils, The position of General Secretary is an elected one and the voters are the various councils who have constantly voted him in . When he was last elected ,Leonel strongly opposed his appointment but had no power to stop his reelection , It has been considered on many occasions that he misappropriated money in his position and much was diverted to cronies in Higuey ,
He is now being brought to court where evidence of misappropriation will be examined .
Josean,the rest you can read about yourself and you can tell us how he can implicate other politicians .

Lie-onel was in power simultaneously for most of his reign at the League of Municipalities and he did not say a word about the alleged theft, why?

He has nothing to worry about this is just another DR dog and pony show. It makes no matter what party you are just rob from the people and you will be acquitted if the price is right-of course not using your own money.

If a President (Lie-onel ) can take a money from and International Drug Lord Oscar Ezequiel Rodriguez via a traceable personal check and partner up with another International Drug Lord Arturo del Tiempo Márquez, to build a Narco Apartment Tower ( Torre Atiemar) use 36 Million dollars of Dominican Tax Payers and is still walking around free campaigning for 2016; you can get away with anything in this Failed Narco State!
