Madrid.– Spanish police seized 277 kilos of cocaine hidden in a container of bovine hides from the Dominican Republic that arrived at the port of Barcelona (northeastern Spain), in an operation in which nine people were arrested.

The police agents learned of the drug through various anonymous citizen complaints received since September in the email account antidroga@policia.es.

Some of the emails indicated the existence of a Dominican group that would distribute cocaine in Madrid, but the police did not provide further details.

In the first investigation the police detected the arrival of a container with 20,000 kilos of bovine hides from the Dominican Republic in which dozens of packages of cocaine had been hidden.

Its never been more embarrassing to declare myself a Dominican. My family has maintained an honest living while all I see is frequent drug seizures stemming from DR.

Kewrunner, very honest of you to say, much respect!

Dominicans have to realize that alot of their current infrastructure was built with cocaine...bricks were secondary. Real success is measured by how you honestly and legally achieve and succeed. If a mega hotel and resort is built from cocaine, if a luxury tower is built from cocaine, if hundreds of car dealerships, rent cars, and money exchange centers are nothing more than cocaine fronts, how does one measure success. In a word, 'illegally'.

Perhaps J will find another Seaga to help it find its way out of its Greek Tragedy, no?

Seaga's 'recovery' program

Seaga ran his campaign around the slogan of guaranteeing "deliverance" from the economic devastation Jamaica is now suffering. He pledged to come to terms with the IMF, and to open up the island's economy to as much foreign investment as can be enticed in.

But the real way that Seaga plans to put Jamaica's financial house in order is by legalizing the drug trade. The new prime minister and his major backers have been explicit about this policy for months:

• In April 1980, Bruce Golding, Seaga's second-in command in the JLP, told the Chicago Daily Defender that marijuana has "become a way of life here," and that "there is a resolution before parliament which was moved by one of our deputy leaders, seeking to decri minalize marijuana." Since the JLP also just won a clear majority in the parliament, the law can be expected to be approved shortly.

Written by: Atabey, 26 Jan 2013 4:06 PM
From: United States, NYC

• In July 1980, Winston Mahfood, Seaga's cousin and principal economic adviser, who also heads the Jamaican Manufacturing Association, called for using the country's drug earnings to buy "legitimate imports of needed raw materials."

• And earlier in the year, Kingston's Daily Gleaner, the most violently partisan press backer of the Seaga campaign, was particularly blatant:

"The salvation of this country lies in ganja (the local term for marijuana). . . . We should stop producing so much sugarcane and produce more ganja instead. We wouldn't have any strikes because smokers would be glad to help with production."

People who live in glass houses, should be mindful that stones can also break their own dwellings.

In the case of J, it already has!

Atabey - Touche!

Nice to see that you liked my glass house analogy written in one of the other threads. My only response to you is that the DR's cocaine bricks (2.2 pounds a piece) are no comparison to Jamaica's ganja bricks (1 pound a piece). The Dominican Republic has switched places with Haiti and is now the caribbean's major creator of zombies. Have you seen what crack will do to a man or woman? No, Atabey, I would say that there is virtually no comparison.....except that they are both illegal. I will acknowledge that ganja bricks have enriched Jamaica but has hurt Jamaica as well. Are you defending your cocaine bricks?

A little history:

Those "Square Groupers" weighed much more than a kilo! LOL

Or have you forgotten those days in Miami?

Brother Louv ? Ring a bell?

The Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church is a mansion of the Rastafari movement that flourished in the 1970s in Jamaica and was incorporated in Florida in 1975. Members of the movement say it is based on the teachings of Marcus Garvey and that they use cannabis as the Rastafari sacrament.

Methinks those square groupers weighed a bit more than a kilo!

Countries are starting to realize the Dominican authorities are involved in the drug trade and they need to stop it from their side.Countries should tax all DR shipments to pay for required investigation of all goods going to and coming from DR. This way even when drugs get in the money and drugs leaving will have a hard time getting anywhere and the money will dry up.

chilliwestaziz, do not waste time having any discussions with this moron , Atabey. he is one of those Dominicans who make everything into a comparative issue. so, when you as a Jamaican make a critical remark about the DR, he runs to google, and tries to look for something comparable about Jamaica. then he comes back , and triumphantly posts 130 pages of copy and paste, as if to say "see, you are just as bad". he is too simple minded to realize that when some kid in the DR graduates at 18 years of age, and cannot find Santiago on the map, his prospective employer does not care whether or not there is anyone in Jamaica who can read. you see, Atabey is a self hating Dominican who believes that no people from a country with dark skinned people should criticize the DR. he ADMITTED that he will accept criticism from Norwegian, and Swedes, but not Jamaicans. as we speak, he is waiting for his complexion package from Sammy Sosa.

just as an aside, ignoramus Atabey, Jamaica is a country that has always had lax regulations regarding weed. chilliwestaziz is a younger man than i, so he might not be first hand familiar with the roaring 70s, when cops blocked off the Queen's Highway, to let ganja planes land, and take off. those days are over. the DR is now the transhipment port of the caribbean. Jamaica has been there, and done that. IN THE PAST you are there NOW. besides, guess what? the DR is not only shipping, but consuming. the barrios are getting to be just like Harlem and the South Bronx and Bushwick in the 80s. crawling with dopeheads and crack addicts. at least that did not happen in Jamaica. guys still smoke up some good sinsemilla, get hungry, and eat up some jerk pork and rice and peas. your guys are getting high on crack, then killing girls for a cellphone to get the next fix. so keep on comforting yourself posting articles about Jamaica in the 70s. you think that cures your CURRENT problem?

So he's younger than you AND that is his excuse for not knowing his OWN country's history?

I guess that now that Greek is the language of choice things will get harder down in old Jamaica.

CHILD AND family therapist Dr Beverly Scott has said the spike in drug usage among youth as reported by the National Council on Drug Abuse (NCDA) is a manifestation of a chronic lack of psychological and emotional support for these individuals.

Responding to a story carried in Monday's edition of The Gleaner, Scott said the statistics highlighting the increase in drug use among the nation's youth are frightening. She argued that the root causes of drug or substance abuse must be identified and cauterised before there will be any tapering off of this debilitating act among the youth.

"It is very dangerous, especially in light of other attending problems which are more serious, like strained relationships with parents, lack of role models in the home, and the fact that, in many instances, parents are the ones who introduce the drugs to the children either by getting them directly involved or by (the children) seeing them using the drugs and feeling comfortable to use them as well," Scott said."

There are many reports of drug smugglers from Haiti trading sophisticated guns for marijuana and cocaine; such weaponry eventually finds its way to the streets and into the hands of criminals. In a recent report, the World Bank declared that crime in the Caribbean, most importantly in Jamaica, is “undermining growth, threatening human welfare, and impeding social development.”

Another problem derived from drug trafficking in Jamaica is the domestic consumption of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and (recently) ecstasy, substances now readily available to the public, including to the island’s youth. The increasing use of drugs has raised many urban areas such as Kingston and Montego Bay to become places to avoid because of their violent atmosphere.

The U.S. Embassy in Jamaica warns American tourists to stay away from inner-city locations as they may be in danger of falling victim to theft or violent confrontations with the local criminals. With tourism accounting for the island’s lar

you have srious reading comprehension problems , Atabey. what i said is that during the drug heyday in Jamaica, which was in the 1970s, there was no crack and heroin culture. the fact that there is a small problem with cocaine there is nothing like it is here. you keep dredging up op ed articles from wherever you can, i know people, including my brother, who lives there. and if you are stupid enough (actually, you are) to believe that by making a comparison between the DR , and Jamaica, and wherever , that will make the problem in the DR go away, then i pity you. you are the typical Dominican that never grew up. the guy who always says 'no es mi culpa".. tell him there is a problem here, he runs off to google to see if there is another country with similar problems, and feels better about himself, because he is still a child at heart, and acting like an adult is the farthest thing from his mind.
