Let's make some deals! Brazil has a very slow economy at the moment with lots of cash on hand, and DR has many worthy infrastructure projects to fund. Also, Brazil has made progress in attacking its poverty and this might help DR in its struggles to do likewise.

Mayor of the capital Roberto Salcedo, used more RD$ 1 billion pesos in violation of law

The Chamber of Auditors also detected that the mayoralty discounted their employees more than RD$ 30 million and did not transfer it to the Treasury of the Social Security

At least DR is afloat and paying its debts while not being in a interest rate death trap.

"All this reads like a Brazilian businessman’s dream come true. So why has the hoped-for investment boom not materialised? The government’s high-handed approach and hostile attitude towards the private sector seem to have put off the very investors it hoped to attract. Brazil’s electricity prices, for example, are the world’s third-highest and a long-standing business bugbear. But the government’s plan to cut tariffs by 20% risks misfiring because it overestimated utility firms’ margins and underestimated the rate of return they would require to renew contracts early."

"The numbers were “disappointing”, admitted Mr Mantega. But recovery, he insisted, is on the way: 4% growth will come next year, with 5% in 2014. Few now believe him. Analysts are slashing their predictions (see chart).

poor Atabey. the guy is so simpleminded, i feel embarrassed for him. look, bozo, a country that is awash in cash invests in US Treasury Bills. do you think they invest in infrastructure projects? what is the rate of return on infrastructure? sorry, Atabey, when a guy is buying a house, he does not look for a nice house in a bad neighborhood. he looks for a normal house in a good neighborhood. hedge fund managers buy sovereign bonds from countries with low credit ratings. governments buy safe investments, more often US bonds. man, do you know anything at all?

yes juanb Brazil has had a very spectacular growth pattern for a decade or so but now is not doing quite as well ..The economy is larger than the economy of GB and the country is huge but in fact they have many of the same problems that we have here in the RD ,,they have more billionaires than any country , they have more than 80 million people living below the poverty line, they have rampant crime and they have a large percentage of uneducated people.....all on a much larger scale than here It is estimaated that their GDP gowth is now only 1% They also have highly regressive taxes.
so although the picture was once very rosy and the pictures of the wonderful beaches and rain forests are appealing ,Brazil is a country which is beset with problems and I think the meetings between Danilo and Lula de Silva could be very productive .

I don't know much about economies and how it relates to its corresponding countries, but one thing's for sure,
Lula Da Silva is an experienced man. And nothing teaches more and better, than practical experience.
If I were Danilo, I'd listen intently as to what he's got to say about anything he chooses to discuss.!

To The Greek Jamaican,

vlakas Dready,

Brazil can extend DR some loans and earn MORE interest than their investments in US Treasury notes or Bills. What are these notes paying? The task is to weigh the risks involved.

you are such an ignorant chopo. governments do not make loans to risky borrowers. individuals and organizations like hedge funds do. governments do not have the luxury of using taxpayer money for risky ventures. maybe it's all that knowledge you gained when you were getting the Magna Cum Laude that has you so confused.

Da Silva is a real nut case.

But he has some world class experience, in a country much larger than ours, and a lot more complex.

He had considerable success during his time in office.

The problems of Brazil are way to voluminous to solve in a few years.

There is a lot to learn from his experience.

Danilo, pay attention to whatever good Da Siva has to say.

Then implement some in your government here.

Remember, you have 4 years to show us that you are the man.

If the Metro of Santo Domingo was Lula Da Silva's idea.

Then Danilo, you should listen to Lula Da Silva more attentively, and with both ears.

The metro of Santo Domingo is the only thing that Leonel Fernandez did, in our country, that deserves credit and praise.

I wish he had done at least 5 metro lines instead of two.

hey, rokete, you have just been introduced to a facet of civilization. did you observe what just happened? are you paying attention? RoyStone knows i am an opponent of the Metro. he supports it. did you notice that he did not insult me, but just expressed his opinion? that is how civilization works. cultured people, who were not born in a jungle, do not insult people just because they disagree. you might pass that on to your buddies in this site. some of you need to evolve, and join the 21st century. you cannot remain medievals forever. it is unbecoming. civilize yourselves.

Lula's two fundemental pillars of his economic program was to raise the salaries of the working poor and create opportunities for them to access affordable credit! These actions moved millions into the middle class and expanded dramatically the consumer base thus stimulating economic expansion and development even further.

Something the PLD NARCO Criminals on their Political Committee are not willing to do!
