Police chief: We’re the Caribbean’s biggest drug warehouse

Santo Domingo.- National Police chief Manuel Castro on Monday revealed that Dominican Republic is now more than just a bridge for drugs, and now produces it, making it “the Caribbean region’s biggest drug warehouse.”

He noted that three months ago the Police Anti-narcotics Unite discovered a cocaine processing lab in a farm of a rural area at San Cristobal province (south).

Quoted by diariolibre.com, Castro said the situation has created a huge drugs market. "There’s a very large consumption which in turn generates more than 75% of the crimes and violence in society."

The official spoke during a activity headed by French ambassador Blandine Kreiss to donate RD$1.8 million worth of computers, scanners, video cameras, among other equipment to the National Police.
