Santo Domingo.- Unidentified gunmen in Navarrete (north) fired on the vehicle in which Chamber of Deputies president Abel Martínez was traveling Sunday night with his family toward Santiago, from the town of Moncion.

The lawmaker’s SUV was hit twice at the left front tire, but Martinez and his companions were not hurt.

Two other vehicles move along with the Martinez, but only their jeep was hit by gunfire in the incident that took place at 10pm.

Once told of the attack, Interior and Police minister José Ramón Fadul instructed National Police chief Manuel Castro to start an investigation into the incident, which took place on the eve of a called strike in Navarrete.
