Dominican Republic boosts patrols along Haiti border for the holidays

Santo Domingo.- Army chief of staff Ruben Paulino on Friday announced heightened vigilance alongthe Dominican Republic-Haiti border in January, when thousands of Haitians returnto the country after visiting relatives for the holidays.

"We have a massive influx in January and we have coordinatedwith Cesfront (Border Security Corp), Customs, Immigration and all otheragencies involved with the border," the official said.

Paulino, speaking at San Isidro Airbase during the graduationof 852 soldiers trained in various fields, also announced the deployment of an additional509 enlistees and 84 officers to bolster National Police patrols nationwide.
