Caracas, (agencies).- Dominican Republic president Danilo Medina will arrive in Venezuela today, to attend the Petrocaribe oil summit.

The meeting of ministers of Petrocaribe countries held Tuesday will seek a relationship beyond crude, said Venezuela’s petroleum minister Rafael Ramírez on Monday.

"That the offer of compensation can be increased? Of course! That’s what we want and that’s basically the purpose of this meeting of the Petrocaribe area: use all that (oil) billing to receive goods, especially goods," and at the same time for Venezuela to export not just crude and derivatives, said Ramirez in a press conference.

The ministers of the energy area from the 18 Petrocaribe countries of will gather in Caracas Tuesday morning and its conclusions will be submitted to the summit of ALBA-Petrocaribe leaders, slated for the afternoon, also in the Venezuelan capital, the official said.

Petrocaribe is formed by Venezuela, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Suriname, while Guatemala announced it withdrew its request for membership in November.

Both of you dominican hater actually believe that venezuela gives a rats ass about what DR is doing to stabilize the haitians in its territory. Why would danilo be scared? Out of all the petrocaribe's nations the only one with better diplomatic relations with venuzuela than the DR is Cuba. Dominicans and venezuelans share a deep bond, my baby mama is venezuelan and her while family is been in DR for years, she's been in DR since she was 1.

Cuba offers Venezuela many teachers and doctors in exchange, the DR has sent black beans and other food items, given 50% ownership in the oil refinery and is increasing agricultural exports.
Petro-caribe terms are a soft loan, but the loan has to be paid and it is not a gift.
I wonder what is Haiti's contribution?
They could shelter let's say 200,000 Haitian agricultural workers, to help with declining production.

. Universities to be evaluated ARTICLE POSTED IN JAN 2006.......
Higher Education Minister Ligia Amada Melo announced that this year 80 technicians will begin an evaluation process of the 43 universities in operation in the country. Melo sustained that Dominican higher education centers do not impart training that responds the society's needs in terms of quality, as graduates show deficiencies in information technology and foreign languages. She pointed out that the intention is not to close down universities but rather to improve them both administratively and academically.

But he'll take agricultural products just the same. People need to eat, and Venezuelans are faced with massive inflationary pressures. So DR just has to increase production to pay these soft loans.
