Top Haitian-Dominican activist rebukes government’s plan for foreigners

Santo Domingo.- Haitian-Dominican rights movement (Reconoci.do) coordinator Ana María Belique on Tuesday called on all offspring of Haitians with a Dominican ID to reject the Government’s Plan to regulate Foreigners.

"If you were born in the Dominican Republic and are not a foreigner, you don’t have to apply to any regulatory plan and much less if you have an ID card or birth certificate," Belique said, quoted by diariolibre.com.

Belique visited the Santo Domingo State University (UASD) Club on the Malecon Tuesday morning, where members of the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights (IACHR) receive complaint from people affected by the Constitutional Court ruling.

She said only the offspring of Haitians who are considered foreigners must apply for the Plan, and urged the people affected to visit the Commission to lodge their complaint.

Dozens of Haitian-Dominicans continue to arrive in buses during the second day of interviews which have been conducted normally so far, while numerous police agents guard compound.
