Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court justice Juan Hirohito Reyes yesterday ruled to acquit senator Amable Aristy on charges he embezzled more than RD$350 million during several years as head of the Dominican Municipal League (LMD).

Reyes, acting as special instruction judge of the high Court, ruled to dismiss the case on grounds that a trial against Aristy would constitute double jeopardy, "based on that they are the same allegations on which the prosecution had initiated a proceeding that it decided to discontinue."

The case against the Senator for eastern La Altagracia province began last year, when he sought to drop the charges of embezzlement as head of the LMD from 2006 to 2009.

This man would clearly have been a hero to both Ali Baba and Attila the Hun. I am also sure that he would have been a great asset to Bernie Madoff. Just think of the possibilities........they probably could have reaped trillions together.

Sad thing is this man is considered a local hero by his people and admired as such. I saw the posse he travels with while cruising the Mediterranean Sea a couple of years ago aboard a very expensive vessel. His accommodations could only be described as grand, and his entourage was at least 40-all paid for with stolen money from the people of the Dominican Republic. Yeah, right, I am sure he is innocent-just like Leonel Fernandez is also innocent.

I would like to see all these thieves put in prison for manyyears , especially Amable Aristy,, but if the courts are going to find reasons to dismiss the cases without even hearing any evidence, then I think that the country has to simply move on ,,and ensure that from the date of Danilos appointment, that more vigilance is taken against this type of criminal behaviour

Everybody in DR knew that this was just a front; He bought half of the Supreme Court Justice puppets.
If you are planing on retiring in the DR., please stay away from politics or you will die of depression. It is a just a BIG MESS.
