Santo Domingo.- Santiago prosecutor Luisa Liranzo affirmed Thursday that pop singer Martha Heredia faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted on the charges of heroin trafficking.

She announced that drug trafficking charges will be filed. “It appears to be heroin.”

Heredia is being interrogated in the Antinarcotics Agency’s precinct in Santiago, where investigators seek to determine which drug organization had hired her to smuggle the drug.

File. Pop singer Martha Heredia was apprehended Wednesday night with 1.8 kilos of cocaine prior to boarding a flight to New York from Santiago’s Cibao International Airport .

Heredia, who since January has been in a domestic violence case against her husband and also singer Manuel Varet (Vakero) was arrested by Airport Security agents when she passed through the x-ray machine, which detected the drug in the heels of the shoes she wore and others in her luggage.

National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) spokesman Roberto Lebron last night said Heredia would be taken to the agency's headquarters.

The Latin American Idol award winner, who was about to board a Jet Blue flight bound for New York at 8 pm, will be questioned today at DNCD headquarters of the and then returned to Santiago for arraignment, Lebron said, quoted by listindiario.com.do.

He said an investigation will determine if the singer served as a drug "mule."

"Born 1991!"

That "learning" happens between age 9 and 13.... hmmmmm. Let's compute: 1991 + 9 = 2000 + 4 = 2004.

Eureka!!!! 2000-2004!!!

Caso cerrado!

They deserve each other.

The values go back to at least the Trujillo Era. And 1991 was NOT yet a PLD Era.

I always thought that this confused girl, was just a predator who was misusing her status, to railroad Vakero, and extract moneys from him.
Her lack of compassion, lying and misusing the legal system in her insatiable thirst for other peoples moneys, will now boomerang against her.
She is no saint as she was portrayed by the partialized press, and the charges against Vakero might has well be dropped, as her husband might still be he only person to foolishly come to her rescue.

Surprisingly in the photo she does not appear to be unduly upset!

The other thing noticeable is that while the woman in the photo is wearing gloves the guy handling the packages is not. Therefore contaminating evidence with his fingerprints and possible DNA.

Once, I arrived at the San Juan airport (Marin) and a cute Dominican woman was arrested for trying to enter cocaine hidden in containers of food (rice, etc). The drug traffickers seem to think that using women is less conspicuous........Wrong!

This chick (being who she is) just put a poop stain on the Dominican image. Buju (a great great singer) kind of further tarnished the image of Jamaicans in a similar way.

El dinero se consigue trabajando, Martha Heredia,

y si los quieres robando y vendiendo drogas,

que te corten el pezcuezo.

Asquerosa, lo que se hace con las manos, no se desbarata con los pies.

Any sum of money is possible to earn with hard work and diligence.

For those like Martha Heredia, that wanted selling drugs or stealing,

should be put on death road.

Let her rot in jail, for now !!
