Santo Domingo.- The grassroots civic movement TOY Jarto (I’m fed up) on Wednesday stated its concerned with the Dominican government’s handling of the environment of the lands next to Bahia de las Aguilas and Jaragua National Park.

"We understand that tourism is the fastest dynamic formula Southwest, but there are ways to build hotels and second home complete without affecting the environmental heritage of the Jaragua National Park," Movement president Elizabeth Mateo said in a statement.

For his part, “TOY Harto, but I believe in my country” coordinator Alvaro Caamaño calls Bahía de las Aguilas the property of all Dominicans, for which “all of us have the right to protect it indefinitely.”

Yes, a balance has to be reached for the good of the all. Tourism and protection of the environment can co-exist. Now let's see if the different interests involved can make this happen.

Just the very kind of movement we need....people have to get out and voice their unwavering and singular position on this most important issue, force the inept gov't to backoff and redress the situation. I further hope they will clamor for prosecution of the perpetrators and would accept nothing less.

So glad the citizens are waking up to the deep reality of the situation, and to stand up against the gov't and corruption. Perhaps this is the genesis of the Dominican Spring.

rokete,
I suggest you take a walk along a beach frequented by Gringos, (like Rincon) then one frequented by Dominicans (like Nigua - be sure to wear protective footwear and ear-plugs) then report back.

Roy stfu you delusional Aussie, foreigners (including gringos) come here to our country and ask our government for a blowjob in exchange for money and taking our land to exploit. Dominicans love their land and care about it more then anyone could.. Yes there are those uneducated folks who don't give a f*ck but most do care as you can see!

Jeesuus these damn freaking people don't ever learn...

IloveDR, have you ever been to the Dominican Republic?
Have you not seen the glaciers of styrofoam and PET that many of the creeks and rivers have turned into?
Have you not seen the streets and highways lined with rubbish?
Have you not seen the beaches covered with rubbish, even just a week after a major clean-up,. washed up from the sea?
If this is caused by " those uneducated folks who don't give a f*ck" then the majority of Dominicans must be uneducated, which is probably about right.

Roy

I have never been to Nigua.

From the kind of people that I know personally that go there, I wouldn't think of it.

I go to Juan Dolio or Minitas when in the south coast.

I go to Cabarete, Playa Dorada, Playa Grande, Diamante, El Breton, Estero Balsa, Manzanillo, Monte Cristi, Las Terrenas, Portillo, Magante, Luperon, Punta Rucia, when in the North.

I no longer go to Sosua Beach or Boca Chica, because those have been spoiled by the Gringos, looking for easy pussy.

Usually beaches are a lot cleaner and unspoiled in the north.
