Santo Domingo.- The Supreme Court’s 2nd Criminal Chamber on Wednesday upheld a lower court’s conviction of Eddy Soriano Rojas for electricity theft, from the energy distributor Edesur.
Electrical System (PGASE) prosecutor Moises Ferrer announced the landmark ruling which includes a RD$ 593,951 fine to be paid to the Electricity Distributor Edesur, for unbilled energy consumed.
Soriano was convicted of violating General Electricity Law 125-01 for having illegal connections to consume electricity and dodge payment.
"Supreme Court justices Miriam Germán, Esther Agelan, Alejandro Moscoso, Hirohito Reyes and Frank Soto ruled to convict based on the prosecution’s evidence, proceeding to uphold the sentence," the agency said in a statement.
It said Soriano was also sentenced to pay 10 minimum wages in damages to the Dominican State and for the cost of the proceeding.
Ferrer said although it’s the first conviction upheld by the Supreme Court, other pending cases will also be confirmed because of the hard evidence gathered against the energy thieves.

still here, beautifully said

I do not think that this is anything like the first decision to be made against electricity theft ,, There have been at least 3 other high profile cases that I can remember and i am sure there are more. One was related to Plaza Central on 27 de Frebrero and Kennedy ...another related to a high placed PLD politician who was forced to pay his bill and finally there was a very large factory , I think on the way to Santiago that was caught red handed ,if you can excuse the expression `. But further more there have been hundreds of homes that have had their illegal wires disconnected ,,but of course these are not high profile .
Unfortunately , yet again Josean has attempteed to hijack this story with his own story which is a totally seperate issue .

And just for information, LF does NOT own FUNGLODE ,,,if anyone is interested in what it does it has its own web site which explains the actions and the ideals and the programmes ..anyone with the smallest notion of forward thinking would be impressed .

If leonel is guilty he will be punished according to the law,,if he is found not to be guilty , then some people will be in trouble...But judgements from the mobs in the press and the radio without any evidence is the height of stupidness
