Dominican Republic’s horse racing belly up as only track fails

Santo Domingo. – President Danilo Medina on Wednesday ordered the National Racing Commission to take over the Hipdromo Quinto Centenario and all horse racing operations in Dominican Republic, after several months of reports of its looming bankruptcy.

Presidency Decree 176-13 transfers all the track’s properties, assets and liabilities to National Racing Commission, and orders a complete audit of the equestrian center within 15 days.

It designates Manfred Codik as president of the National Racing Commission and Julio Cesar Cuello as the Hipodromo’s administrator.
