Rome.- The Vatican’s Secretary of State on Thursday stated "Pope Francis’ deep gratitude" and thanked Dominican Republic’s Ambassador for the note sent on December 30 informing of the Dominican people’s support for Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus López Rodriguez.

It also says the Pope bestowed the ‘apostolic blessing” on Dominican ambassador Victor Grimaldi and his loved ones.

Grimaldi delivered the letter to the Papacy on December 30 in response to statements by author Mario Vargas Llosa against the Cardinal.

Pope Francis, who met with the diplomats accredited to the Vatican on Monday, ratified Lopez Rodriguez as Dominican Republic’s only Cardinal.

To DT....That does not mean that the Pope does not condone what he is saying and doing.....proof is that soon after, he (Pope) nominated the first Haitian Roman Catholic Cardinal for a better representation of the other side of this island in Vatican......the timing here is very important, this just tells us that the Pope took notice and are aware of the Cardinal's mess. I don't think that Mario Vargas really wanted the Pope or the church to take action against the Cardinal, however as trying to make point or a statement to show his disappointment, yes this will align more with the church position during time of crisis.

The Cardinal needs to celebrate masses but not to create messes or controversies.

--Pope Francis, who met with the diplomats accredited to the Vatican on Monday, ratified Lopez Rodriguez as Dominican Republic’s only Cardinal.
No ratification/confirmation is needed...the guy is already a Cardinal, what is the point here. you are misleading the readers here.

The last mention VA makes of De Jesus Lopez Rodriguez is of 30th November 2013, in a letter (in Latin) of appointment as a special envoy to the Pope at a meeting in Managua at the concluding celebrations of the centenary of the institution of the Ecclesiastical Province of Managua, scheduled to be held on 2 December 2013. Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez substitutes Cardinal Jorge Liberato Urosa Savino, archbishop of Caracas, Venezuela.

No mention is made in the Vatican Press of the Cardinal after that date.
(I checked all agencies of the Vatican concerning news)
A cardinal is appointed by a pope for as long as live will last. Confirmation, confirming what exactly?
Can you tell us where this information comes from if not from VA or Fides or other Vatican News outlets? Cardinal de Jesus Lopez Rodrigues, I am sure!

Let's wait and see if DT has the balls to justify or back up the contents of this article with some solid proof....We are not only readers , we are also thinkers.....
Is money changing hands here in this editorial to rehabilitate the image of Cardinal Rodriguez, else is this some sort of PR campaign for Cardinal Rodriguez on behalf of DT?
Listen, editorials are supposed to reflect the opinion of the periodical....Is this DT opinion's or the opinion of the writer?

I guess that means you disagree...........

So in your estimation what exactly is accurate, that the vast majority of the Dominican people do not support the Cardinal. Is that correct or do you have a differences of opinion?

@guillermone
How/when was that consensus reached? It seems more like people trying to influence public opinion, and merely a propaganda to rally people who like to follow the crowd behind him . How did the Dominican majority show that they were supporting the Cardinal. Of course, I can't deny that there will be some renegades like 'rokete' that will back him up, to say a majority, is absurd. I can assure you a good portion of the DR population does not even know who he is, if it is not the majority in my humble opinion.

Guille....

It is highly undesirable for Adamo and the rest of the Haitian masquerade,

for Lopez Rodriguez to continue as a cardinal,

because Lopez Rodriguez is the voice of the ruling Dominican elite, including the masses too,

and what he says goes.

Lopez Rodriguez is an obstacle to the Hispaniola Fusion Agenda,

HE IS A TRUE DOMINICAN THAT CARES FOR HIS COUNTRY.

He represents a voice with unquestionable power,

stronger than our politicians, including the president.

i am sure most Dominicans approve of him,

for I am not even catholic and hold him in high esteem and respect.

!!!!! LOPEZ RODRIGUEZ FOR PRESIDENT !!!!!

eeee....The Card will be there for the rest of his life......unless he gets caught like the others in the clergy in some sort of Pedophilia scandal, which is very common within the Catholic church. I don't give a s.....about how long he will be around. Even under the aforementioned circumstance, that will be up to Vatican or unless there is an indictment. Vatican punishes/or slaps on the wrist his entourage when only if the issue is too hot to handle.....the members of the clergy know that too and this is why that keeps perpetuating for centuries for they felt like they have some sort of immunity against the laws.

Viva Our beloved Cardinal with big c.ojones!
In other news caravans of 60-80 Haitians where sent back to Peru yesterday trying to enter Brazil.
Brazil asked the Peruvian authorities to close the border, as already 20,000 Haitians have entered illegally.
Brazil usually receives caravans of 20-30 Haitians at a time, but recently the influx of illegals has been in much greater number.

Agree roke, I am not catholic either but I approve of the cardinal's outspoken defense of Dominicans and for Dominicans.
Being a religious man is not contrary to being patriotic.

Most ignore that it was the cardinal that investigated, and unmasked the pedophile nuncio, after the nuncio
was taken unconscious, due to excessive alcohol consumption, to a private hospital ((Cedimat) according to reputable accounts of doctors there, and hospital records.
Afterwards the cardinal who had been called to the scene, started an investigation of the nuncio's perverted ways, and uncovered his pedophile and drug habits.
Due to his diplomatic immunity, the only alternative was to dispatch the pedophile nuncio, back to the Vatican, hoping that the scandal would remain silent. But the nuncio's Dominican deacon ally and frequent pimp of young boys, is safely a resident of one of our medieval Dominican jails, awaiting trial.

Be aware this letter of support is nothing more than a fluff form letter sent as a greeting and well wishes for the new year.

Cardinal Nicki as always continuing opening his mouth and spitting out words without engaging his brain will draw Vatican attention. I suspect the attention will bring other letters not so complimentary.

It seems that you have problems understanding English after all that time......go back to the article if you have read it somewhere and have someone with a higher IQ explains it to you....

Again, there were 19 NEW Cardinals confirmed by Pope Francis....Was Rodriguez given a new task in addition to being a Cardinal....what it is....So what kind of confirmation you are talking about....Are you referring to the Pope's blessings during masses......I'll take that one, but was Rodriguez attending the mass..... Ge....use your brain, when you read something before start saying it to others, not to make a fool out of yourself. ....
...you said
"You may not like the news, so my advise is to run to the nearest wall, and jump head first!ja ja ja ja" ....
Psst...go to your nearest mall if there is one nearby you, else go look for the "John" and flush yourself along with some tissue if this feature ain't new to you. Do u know how to use it yet
