Dominicans who work in NYC airports ‘unprotected’ against ebola

New York.- Several Dominicans who work in the company Air Serv, with provides maintenance and cleaning services to airlines at Kennedy airport and other terminals, say they fear the spread of the ebola virus, when disposing of body fluids and other waste in aircrafts’ interior.

They said they’re paid the minimum wage for which they recently protested to demand better job security and health benefits.

They complain that the gloves Air Serv issues them are too fine to protect their skin, in addition to not having other equipment such as masks or sterile uniforms.

Dominican Rafael Mercedes, 66, said they’ve been struggling for improved working conditions for the last three months.

"It’s now more important than ever, because with the ebola outbreak and cases of passengers with the virus on airplanes, it affects our safety and health even more," he said.
