Highland town protesters reach the National Palace, demand water

Santo Domingo.- Inhabitants of the highland town of Baitoa, Santiago province, arrived to the National Palace Thursday morning, to demand the construction of an aqueduct by the Government.

Community leaders of Baitoa and surrounding villages complain that despite having a major river nearby, have suffered a shortage of piped water during the last 40 years.

There are no reports thus far of any government official coming out to speak with the protesters, who with banners and pickets in hand demand water service to their homes.

Actor demands acqueduct

Actor and Baitoa native Manny Pérez last month supported his town’s demand for the construction of a new aqueduct, and said it was inconceivable tha its residents have had to withstand shortages for more than 30 years.
