Ex Dominican Republic leader handily beats all comers: Poll

Santo Domingo- Only former president Leonel Fernández and vice president Margarita Cedeño would win in a first round as presidential candidates if the elections were held today, according to a survey disclosed Wednesday.

Pollster ASISA notes that president Danilo Medina wasn’t considered because of a constitutional impediment.

They explained that, if an amendment to the Constitution, then they would proceed to conduct another study including Medina in the survey.

ASISA director Lilian Pagán, who provided the survey’s details, said that in an electoral scenario where Fernández would run on the ruling PLD party ticket; former president Hipolito Mejia for the DRP, and Miguel Vargas for the PRD, Fernández would win with 59.4%, to Mejia’s 16.2 percent, and Vargas’ 6.2%.

In a second scenario where Luis Abinader replaces Mejia in the PRM, Fernández would win with 59.8% to Abinader’s 14.6 and Vargas’ 7.6%.

The margin of error of the ASISA poll done Oct. 3 to 6 with 1,521 people interviewed was +/- 2.5%.
