Heroes’ daughter works to form a new political party

Santo Domingo.- Independent deputy Minou Tavarez Mirabal on Tuesday announced the formation of the party Opción Democrática (democratic choice), and said she already works to strike alliances leading to the 2016 elections.

She said the party already has candidates for mayoral of Santo Domingo Norte and for an unspecified post in southern Barahona province.

The lawmaker said signatures are being collecting across the country to qualify for recognition by the Central Electoral Board (JCE). “We’re forming an organization of men and women committed to democracy and justice.”

Tavarez, the daughter of national heroes Manolo Tavarez Justo and Minerva Mirabal, spoke in the Chamber of Deputies, where she affirmed not regretting resigning from the ruling PLD party.
