Brewster reiterates support for plan to regularize foreigners

Santo Domingo.- US ambassador James W. Brewster on Thursday reiterated Washington’s support for the Plan to regularize the status of foreigners, enacted by president Danilo Medina’s Administration.

The diplomat noted that despite that much work still remains, he lauded the plan’s sweeping impact. “There’s still much work to be done, there’re still many steps to take, but we feel positive about the impact this is having, both nationally and internationally and what the government has done thus far."

Human Rights Court ruling

"We believe, and it’s our intention to focus on the issue of human rights of those people who are impacted by these laws and decrees, that we as an embassy wish to make sure that we continue to focus on the positive data and their effect on the people affected by such determinations," Brewster said in reference to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights’ ruling against the country.

The U.S. Envoy made the statements after a half-hour meeting with Federico (Quiqui) Antun, president of the pro-government minority party (PRSC) at the organization’s headquarters.
