FIDH asks Dominican Republic to fully comply with the ruling of CNDH

Santo Domingo.– The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH) regretted the decision of the Dominican Republic’s Constitutional Court to declare unconstitutional the instrument of acceptance of the jurisdiction of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).

"We call on the Dominican government to respect international treaties on protection and defense of human rights and fully comply with the recent ruling of the Human Rights Court," said FIDH president Karim Lahidji.

The organizations consider that the TC’s sentence 256-14 is a serious legal setback that threatens international protection for serious violations of human rights of all Dominicans and Haitians under the jurisdiction of Dominican Republic, and also makes the country to turn its back to the international community, the inter-American system for the protection of human rights and the Dominican Constitution itself.
