“Operation Safe Christmas 2014” starts Tuesday afternoon

Santo Domingo.– From 2:00 pm on Tuesday, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) will launch the Christmas operation "Safe Christmas for Values, 2014-2015," which will run until 6:00 pm on Thursday, in order to reduce traffic accidents and other threats to public safety duringthe holidays.

The official ceremony will be held at the headquarters of the government’s Metropolitan Bus Services Office (OMSA) at 11:00 am.

According to the COE, 32,455 military, paramedics, police and search and rescue specialists will be deployedacross the country. Also, 1,502 aid stations on the most vulnerable areas to traffic accidents will be enabled.

Since yesterday, dozens of people are leaving for their home towns to spend the Christmas festivities with their relatives. The COE will coordinate its effortswith other agencies including the Red Cross, National Police and the Armed Forces,and Public Works ministries.
