Wildcat strike halts fuel dispatch from Dominican Republic refinery

Santo Domingo.- Fuel deliveries from the Dominican Petroleum Refinery have been halted since early Thursday, as its truckers’ union stage a surprise walkout.

Union spokesman Franklin Mateo said the protest stems from the arrest of three of its leaders, including general secretary Clemente Molina in San Pedro during another protest yesterday against the company Gas Caribe, owned by Raisa Rodríguez.

He said an ongoing salary dispute with Rodriguez forced them to take their case to the Labor Ministry.

Maeto, speaking on the Zol de la Mañana radio program, said at first the strike only affected Caribe Gas’ fuel tankers but, the arrest of its leaders forced them to include the Refinery.
