US envoy to Dominican Republic wants charges in ponzi scam

Santo Domingo.- United States ambassador James W. Brewster on Tues. wants those behind the ponzi scheme TelexFree who scammed thousands of people brought up on charges.

He said he doesn’t want to make assumptions or explain anything because in his view that’s the beauty of a democratic system that respects justice.

"It’s very important that if someone committed a crime, has cheated that we proceed against them and we’re of course working closely with the authorities of this country to go ahead with this investigation and anyone who has committed an act of corruption, some wrongful act, to be taken and processed judicially," Brewster said

The diplomat said he doesn’t know the specifics of the case, for which he favors due process.

Trail of the senses

Brewster spoke after inaugurating the "Path of the senses," the first accessible path at the National Botanic Gardens, aimed at promoting the rights of persons with special conditions, built at a cost of US$90,000, with signs in Braille, audio and a MP3visual guide, for persons with disabilities to enjoy the recreation in nature.
