Santo Domingo.- Most of the personalities who were asked about National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso’s statement that there’s a lack of political will to fight corruption, questioned Dominican Republic’s ruling PLD party, which in their view must demonstrate its interest to deal with the problem with facts.

Institutionalism and Justice Foundation (Finjus) vice president Serbio Tulio Castaños urged the population to be more active and demand that the government fight corruption. "We’re discussing the criminal code where corruption is clearly stipulated and there’s been no way for Congress to pass it."

He said the fight against corruption has failed because the country's political system is based on cronyism.

Legislators

For opposition PRD party lawmakers Ramon Bueno, Nelson Arroyo, Hugo Núñez and Jorge Frías, Reynoso’s statements show the "rampant corruption" within the PLD, which doesn’t want it uncovered.

Arroyo says the official should resign because it will be difficult to carry out her duty to fight corruption in the ruling party’s Administration.

Nuñez asks Reynoso to publicly denounce those who’ve been pressuring her, and said her security detail must be beefed up.

Meanwhile PRD party president Miguel Vargas agreed with Reynoso, noting that the same applies to a lack of public and legal security. "There’s still a need to articulate a strategy to develop a quality education system that effectively serves the personal realization of the people."

Corruption is a way of life. A way of politics and getting things done. What is missed is these things people are getting bribed for are part of doing government business. Hunt them down, charge them strip them of their assets and jail them. Special truth courts where you can go admit what you did pay a fine but not sent to jail. You of course forfeit your job.

The DR is the definition of BANANA REPUBLIC, where one political party dominates and controls a government and its institutions without any opposition, oversight or fear of prosecution for corrupting the morals of a country and fakes a democracy, freedom of the press and judicial system. The DR lives in the year 1850's

This country has endemic corruption ,,no one can deny that ,,but the polulation and most commentators seem to think that the current President is honest ,,But how can any President eliminate the engraned corruption . In China and in India where corruption is much worse they occasionally kill alleged corrupt officils but we are not permitted to do that here .If only we could have a legal system that was not corrupt maybe we could advance

Actually I see there is an article on the most countries published again ,,there seems to bea different one all the time and the Dominican Republic is about in the middle or not even mentioned ,,so from many different eyes we are not so bad although we all know that petty corruption is endemic here
