Gays and lesbians want an end to discrimination

Santo Domingo.- The barrios thought it was a political rally or a carnival with a festive air and thunderous music blasting from huge speakers on a motorcade.

But to their surprise, it t was a diversity of people in colorful attire, with voices that spoke of equality, and the acceptance of people with the same sexual preferences.

The activity had the support of 25 organizations that backed up traffic along several streets through the capital’s northern neighborhoods, to mark Gay Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual (LGBT) Pride Day which ended at Caamaño Av. (El Puerto), with rhythms and fashion culminating with a concert Sunday night.

Waving their multicolored LGBT flag, the organizers said it was their seventh annual parade, to request respect for diversity, for the expression of sexual preferences and an end to discrimination.
