Dominican Republic passes stiff law against government corruption

Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday passed the bill which penalizes with prison those officials who fail to submit their financial statement, during their tenure.

The Senate had already passed the imitative by senator Charlie Mariotti (Monte Plata-PLD), and president Danilo Medina is expected to sign into law.

The legislation provides for penalties from four to 10 years in prison for government officials found guilty of illicit enrichment.

It also penalizes officials who include false data in their statement, from one to two years in prison and fines as high as 40 minimum wages.
