Haitians rescued near Puerto Rico had left from DR

Santo Domingo.– Twelve Haitian nationals who had left from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico, were found on an island west of the U.S. territory, Puerto Rican police reported Friday.

The group was found on Desecheo Island, and six of them were taken to the hospital and treated for dehydration and cuts, according to the police report.

Desecheo is a small, mountainous, uninhabited island that is located north of the Mona Passage, 21 kilometers away from the western coast of Puerto Rico and 50 km northeast of Mona Island.
