P. Fernandez, SUV shot at.

Zoom Picture

San Francisco, Dominican Republic.- Prominent journalist Pedro Fernández denied Wednesday that the attack by gunfire against him stems from his son’s 600,000 peso debt with alleged drug trafficker Yuyo Paula, and cited National Police general Neivi Luis Pérez and Duarte Province prosecutor Reyes Victoria for what might happen to him and his family.

He said the local police and prosecutors are in cahoots with drug gangs.

In a press conference, Fernández rejected the bodyguards authorized by president Danilo Medina just hours after Reporters Without Borders demanded his protection from alleged drug traffickers who reportedly shot out the windows of his SUV while driving through a “hot” sector of San Francisco, the country’s notorious drug capital.

He said many police officers are on the side of the drug traffickers headed by Paula.

“It’s safer to walk alone and unprotected than with police agents, since they can kill you and claim otherwise, because they’re up to their necks with drug trafficking, said Fernández, who has received the support of Dominican Republic’s Journalists Association -CDP- and other workers’ unions.

The threats and attacks against the journalist and his family come after he denounced the high number of drug pushers and 12 murders including those of business leaders Fernandez says the police and prosecutor in San Francisco, have yet to clarify.

I've had friends that visited DR last month, stayed in a rssort in Punta Cana, as usual they were told not to leave the hotel grounds ALONE for safety reasons, somehow they wrere discouraged bye this, knowing that you will be locked up in a resort for seven days, beeing kept inside from vultures is a bad image for tourists, i keep mentioning this to you guys, but some idiots here portraying it as its normal, nooooo its not normal dont you get it on your head.

Danny00 as you may be aware, USA birth date are not register in the same order as here in the DR. The USA which is one of the few countries in this planet that puts the month before the date creates problems for Dominican, Also the put they last name before the first name. What your friend should it done was the following. write down on a piece of paper how his name and birth date are writing in in his native country. In the USA they make the mistake of not putting both of your last names on your documents which is totally different than almost 90% of the countries around the world. So give the guy a break and tell your friends that next time he is needsg to do any legal documentation in this country to check everything before he leaves the office where he is doing the paper work to make sure that everything is correct. Another sample is for married women that in the USA they only use the husband last name and don't put the wife first name.
