Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s ruling party (PLD) on Friday marked the 98th anniversary of the Battle of La Barranquita, where armed men from the town of Mao, Valverde province, confronted the U.S. Occupation Force in 1916.

“The feat highlights the intrepid heroism of Carlos Daniel and Maximo Cabral, whose names figure on several PLD organizations across the country,” it said in a statement.

"That Monday, July 3, 1916, a group of Patriots led by general Carlos Daniel and captain Maximo Cabral, heroically resisted the American army advancing from Montecristi to Santiago."

It said the battle was uneven, “because only 80 very poorly armed men, clashed with an organized army of more than 300 well-equipped soldiers.”

"The daring and valor of the fighters and the people in arms forced the soldiers to retreat and plot new tactics to advance through the garrison commanded by Daniel and Cabral," the statement said.

It adds that Cabral and most of his men died in combat on July 4, 1916, after heroically confronting the American troops. He was 29.

Basta, I read somewhere that when tourism was big in Haiti in the 1980's many homos came to vacation or should I say sexation in your native country and were "well received" by many haitian men. These "men" after their tryst with French, Canadian and N American tourist would then go home and tryst some more with their women.
And that's how Haiti became the hub of AIDS.

These Haitian posters that come on here to spew nonsense? Let them. Many of the older posters might remember how sympathetic I was to their plight when I first started posting on here years ago, to the point of having to constantly defend myself against some of the other Dominican posters. Well, thanks in large part to what I've seen on here over the years from various Haitian posters my opinion of them as a people has changed completely. I once considered them a humble lot. But then again the ones I interacted with were in college, a setting that's very easy to put your best foot forth in. If anything we should be grateful that such individuals come on here and give us a glimpse into the mind of the Haitian national character, especially when they can hide behind anonymity. They draw the lines in the sand very clearly for us and leave little doubt as to where the Dominican people should stand with respect to them.

THE Battle was s kirmess as far as battles go. Poorly armed they resisted a best and as hard as they could against a better armed opponent. Numbers will usually triumph, so will tactics, but these heroes gave a good account of themselves to the last man. I doubt the yanqui invaders ever again took for granted the fight in DR men. Does any one believe US troops come to DR to help us , or to learn what we do in order to assess what it would take for another invasion.!!

Here is the deal,
First, I'm American. I hate all third world country people who come to the US and bring their filthy lifestyles with them.
Let's start with Dominicans, you are by far the dumbest group of people in America. You are the most uneducated, the most ignorant, you are lazy, your women are wh*res, you are on welfare which my US tax dollars pay for, and you are a bunch of criminals. The women have six kids by three different fathers. You are sucking up my tax dollars. Stay in you third world country where you belong.

Second, I don't like Haitians either because, they are just as poor or poorer as you guys, but they are more educated than Dominicans. I will say that much. They are not as lazy, but they are still third world country people. You Dominicans and Haitians don't belong in the US. Stay in your country where you belong Poor people.

The larger portion of MLB players of Dominican origin immigrated from the Dominican Republic, number in the hundreds, and count among them Robinson Cano, Rafael Soriano, Pedro Martínez, David Ortiz, Albert Pujols, Manny Ramírez, and Hall of Fame member Juan Marichal.

Some of them including Cano (2012) have obtained US citizenship. Dominican natives Felipe Alou and Tony Peña were managers, and Omar Minaya is a general manager in MLB. Basketball has seen the likes of Felipe López, Francisco Garcia, and Al Horford, all originally from the Dominican Republic, and Charlie Villanueva from New York. The Dominicans living in the US are criminals and most are illegal. Dominicans have no business in the US. With their illegal activity and them sucking up the welfare, I have to pay more taxes and I work. Is that fair, Dominicans come to the US don't work and I have to support them with my money.

Go back to your third world country, and take your terrible work habits with you. You are not Americans and you will not assimilate to America. You are too poor and too uneducated to assimilate. Who cares about bodegas, taxi cabs and black car industries. You are only talking about NYC. There are 50 states in the US and you only talk about one city. That goes to show you
how small minded you Dominicans are.

Au contraire, it is you who have proven yourself to be a Mental Midget with a close mindset. The vast majority of Dominicans live in NYC so logically this is the place where you would find the greatest number of contributions. However, on a smaller scale extremely hard working and successfully Dominicans are found all over the country including Chicago, NV, TX, PA, VA, NJ, RI, LA, GA and MA. Like I said once before, I can write pages giving you excellent examples of Dominicans making positive contributions but you already have your mind made up and don't want to accept reality. Yet history states that all immigrant groups once had similar beginnings. The Jews, Italians and Irish were once considered the worst people in America yet today have assimilated well and enjoy an excellent reputation

I am going to give you a personal example. I am a college educated Dominican who once worked for the Dept of Edu but today a successful real estate investor with holdings which allows me to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. My brother in law is a retired colonel with the US Army but now works for the Pentagon in Wash, DC. He has lived all over the world speaks 5 languages-English, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese and happens to be on his way to Afghanistan on a special gov't mission. Most of my cousins are university graduates and successful entrepreneurs who have done very well over the years. It is unfortunate that a few bad apples make you think so negatively about us. Think about it, do you want me to pass judgment on all black Americans, condemn and discredit them in spite of being born and raise in the US yet have one of the lowest achievement records among all ethnic groups. But of course not that would be wrong and unfair, yet the record is there to prove it

Fellas, this ghetto refugee is not worth the thought or time dedicated to him. You can tell by the way he expresses himself that he has an incomplete education . If he is of Haitian descent (I hope not that would make him a progeny of our neighbors) he is a traitor to his roots. I actually believe he is nothing more than a child of ghetto parent (1) with a ghetto half assed education, descended he knows not from where or whom as most black americans don't.

Best to just ignore his ghetto babble and let him continue to think he is relevant to american mainstream society.

Maybe it should be tranny809, my point is, don't get mad, African Americans have paved the way for third world country people like Dominicans. Dominicans have no fight, no backbone. That's why their people want to come to the US.

BTW, How don't I have roots in the US, explain this to me. This should be good. No Dominican has roots in the US. That's why no Dominican should ever say they are American.
If African Americans have fought in the Revolutionary War, that's the war of Independence, then how can you say that over the past lets' say 300-400 years, that they don't have roots there, that statement is absurd. Because in addition to Dominicans there are people from all over dying to come live, work and play in the USA.

In 2012, Mexican-born immigrants accounted for approx. 28% of the nearly 40.8 million foreign born in the US making them by far the largest immigrant group in the country. Johnny from Canada,

Well during the time of Marcus Garvey, he attempted to get the blacks to return to Africa.
This is what happened, the US got wind of this and because of slavery, and the slaves were producing all of the cotton and other articles. That was big money, economic gain for the United States. Now if the US were to lose those blacks , then there would have been an economic collapse in the United States. So the US. charged Marcus Garvey with tax evasion. He was arrested, tried, convicted and went to prison. So next time you say something as stupid as what you have said, know what the f*ck you are talking about .

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lets put this in real terms, actual and true perspective and not misrepresent facts and give slaves more credit than what they deserve. Slaves were not producing anything, and if they did it was only as laborers. The white slave masters were the actual producers and the slaves were chattel property used as peons, (human machines) to be savagely exploited as unpaid field hands to for the economic gain of the master who owned everything. If that is what you mean then in that sense you are correct. Just want to clarify the issue. Because you tend to twist things around quite a lot.

Bottom line, without the labor from the blacks the US economy would have collapsed.
Period End of Story. BTW, they locked up Marcus Garvey because of what he was trying to accomplish. That just goes to show you how economics controls everything. And since the blacks were the labor, they couldn't leave the USA. So white people are full of shyt, when they say go back to Africa. It was tried and a black man that put the wheels in motion was arrested and imprisoned.

I now realize the only way you know how to feel good about yourself is by putting others down. I try to do the total opposite. But few appreciate it and you are one good example. BTW, There are no deep psychological issues with me. The deep psychological issues are rooted within the Dominican community. I've never seen a group of people that are mainly of African descent deny their heritage. It is a sign of mental illness.. If you can love the people that enslaved you more than the people that gave you freedom from your oppressors. That is a true sickness.

TontoDominicano,

WTF are you talking about. You jump into a conversation without knowing all of the facts.
Once again, third world country, third world education, third world mentality.

Oxymoron, what's the matter? No speaky Spanish?
You speaky French, Chinese, even German? No...you speaky ghetto English. Talk about lack of education.

And by the way Marcus Garvey was active in the roaring twenties you numb nuts. Slavery had been over for 50 years.
Go to school, read !

Carry on.

@perception,
Don't defend the asinine and racist commentary of oxymoron by questioning my appearance. Oxymoron is not judged by his color but by the content of his remarks. For all I know he may be a high yellow nigra from S. Carolina.
But as long as you are asking , your thoughts when looking at me would probably be "hmm...good looking guy, wonder where he is from. He's not black, not quite white , not oriental ".
A testament to my mixed heritage. Dominican and proud of it.
What would I think if I saw you my dear?
