Medina guarantees ‘absolute’ freedom of expression

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Thursday said his administration guarantees absolute respect for freedom of expression in the Dominican Republic as democratic achievements of its citizens.

Medina met with a group business leaders and newspaper executives from Panama, Chile and the Dominican Republic in the National Palace, who are in the country to mark the 125th anniversary of Listin Diario.

Listin Diario newspaper editor in chief Miguel Franjul said Medina stated an upmost respect for freedom of expression. "President Medina said the Dominican people enjoy much freedom in this matter; for all citizens to have many open channels to express their idea."

Also present in the meeting were senior government officials, local media moguls, journalists, directors of newspapers from Panama and Chile, and Julio Muñoz, head of the Society of Inter-American Press (SIP).
