Haiti, Dominican agents capture Haitian inmates(Update)

Santo Domingo.- Dominican soldiers captured three of the 329 Haitians who escaped from a jail near the capital Port-au-Prince, after crossing the border between Jimani and Hondo Valle, Defense minister Sigfrido Pared announced Tuesday.

He said among the arrested figure Clifford Brandt, son of a prominent business leader, being held on a kidnapping charge since 2012.

On Monday Pared said nine of the inmates who escaped from the prison at Croix des Bouquets had been captured, and now total 13. Brandt was arrested in 2012 along with 19 other men who allegedly formed part of a gang of kidnappers.

Initially the Haitian police said Sunday that gunmen raided the prison from inside and outside to break Brandt out, but Security minister Jean Renel Sanon called it a mutiny in which prisoners attacked the guard posts to escape and fled with as yet-undetermined number of weapons.

Several witnesses on Sunday told The Associated Press that 15 gunmen in two vehicles attacked the prison.
