Santo Domingo.- National Police chief Manuel Castro Castillo on Wednesday said the release on bond of former police Col. Johan Liriano, linked to alleged drug traffickers and hired killers, is the result of "our weakJustice."

He said as policemen they did their job and provided all necessary evidence against the former official, who was being held during nine months in pre-trial detention at Najayo prison.

The San Cristobal (south) Instruction Court released Liriano on RD$100,000 bond and imposed a travel ban, among other restrictions.

The former colonel allegedly formed part of a ring of 13 people based in La Romana, headed by the fugitive Solomon Eusebio Rosario (Piki). The Police says the ring paid thugs to commit murders and collect debts from drug traffickers and money launderers.

Police also says Liriano is linked to the murders of hired killers Juan Felix Cordero Febles (Copelin) and Edgar Rafael Rijo Astacio (Maestrico).

And then people asked why the police killed some many people like this scumbag, because if they catch them and put it on the hands of a judge to keep it in prison for what they did, that judge let's em go free on bail. People like that one should not be grant bail because they are a parasite to our society. Let's see if the the prosecutor appeal the court ruling.

I don't know if this guy is guilty or not. He has been in jail for 9 months and no trial has begun. When a judicial system can be corrupt as well as law enforcement how do you trust the system?

A person can be held in jail without even being charged with a crime here so I lean towards it is better to let one guilty person free rather than having the innocent imprisoned.

I feel for the good cops, judges, lawyers involved but the system is not trustworthy yet. The accused is even a Police Colonel charged with the hideous crimes. Not long ago he was arresting people for crimes.

Bail at $2,500 USD pretty cheap he can make that up in a day. Did the seize his bank accounts or real estate holdings or that of his family ? This is a person who swore to uphold the laws of the country and betrayed the public. No pension, no benefits no respect no rank. They catch these officials and let them retire and the people keep paying his salary. Strip him of his rank and publically drum him out of the service then put him against a wall for public execution. That will do more for the public trust than anything else. Every time you find a crooked politician, police or military have the public hanging and do it on national tv
