Woman to head Dominican Republic Congress for the first time

Santo Domingo.- As the result of a brief meeting typical for the ruling PLD party’s Political Committee, Cristina Lizardo will become the first woman President of the Senate, and of the National Assembly.

The PLD’s top echelon also confirmed Abel Martínez to continue as President of the Chamber of Deputies.

The selection of the congressional leadership was unanimous, said PLD general secretary, and outgoing Senate president Reinaldo Pared, after the meeting attended by 34 of the CP’s 35 members.
