Dominican Republic to wage war on din

Santo Domingo.- The Environment Ministry on Wednesday announced heightened measures to reduce often unbearable noise pollution across the country, with technicians who can monitor and measure the din and respond to complaints “on the spot."

It said the population’s awareness on noise pollution will be strengthened.

“The training cycle will start at the southern region which covers Pedernales, Barahona, Independencia, Bahoruco, San Juan and Azua provinces, but will be extended to other regions in the coming days,” Environment said in a statement.

It said provincial staff and technicians trained on environmental tools will conduct inspections and render objective technical reports. “Directors, technicians and Environmental employees received training in the GPS, decibel meters, on filing affidavits, inspections, as well as the elaboration of the national noise map to optimize responses that contribute to decrease noise significantly in those provinces.”
