Puerto Rico to show Dominicans how to fight crime

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina and Puerto Rico governor Alejandro García on Thursday agreed to bolster trade, cultural ties, tourism and public safety, and fight international drug trafficking jointly, by preventing cartels from using both territories as a bridge.

They agreed to form a joint a commission to study Puerto Rico’s war on crime, which has been reduced by 30 percent, and its possible application in the country.

Padilla said he and Medina instructed the Commission on public safety to issue a cooperation proposal within 60 days, to help Dominican Republic adopt Puerto Rico’s experience during the last 20 months.

Also present at the meeting of the two leaders were U.S. ambassador James W. Brewster and Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo.
