Veteran Dominican politico discards push to unify opposition party

Santo Domingo.- Hatuey De Camps, one of Dominican Republic’s most veteran politicos on Tuesday called attempts to unify the opposition PRD party, “old news” and "old talk" and that his efforts seek to create an opposition front with that organization and the newly created PRM.

De Camps, president of the minority opposition party (PRSD), said he and PRM presidential candidacy hopeful Luis Abinader agreed on the need of an opposition front to defeat the ruling PLD party in the 2016 elections, "because if separate, we lose, together we win."

He said he also to meet with PRD president and candidate Miguel Vargas, to discuss his proposal for a front of all organizations to confront the PLD.

De Camps previously visited former president and PRM candidacy hopeful Hipolito Mejia in his home.
