France won’t extradite fugitive pilots to Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- French government spokesman Stephane LeFoll on Wednesday said his country will not extradite to the Dominican Republicthe two French pilots who are convicted of drug trafficking and who fled lastweek.

Interviewed by RTL Radio Le Foll said French legislation barsextradition of its nationals, after Dominican Republic the Attorney General announcedTuesday that it will issue an international arrest warrant against Pascal Fauretand Bruno Odos, who are now in France.

"We don’t extradite French citizens when they are inour territory," the spokesperson said, adding that "we are a greatcountry, we respect the law."

He decline a response when asked of a possible arrest of Fauretand Odos, sentenced to a 20 years in prison for drug trafficking and who werereleased while they appealed the case.

He noted however of possible charges since French courtshave opened an investigation as the result of the insolvent of the pilots.
