Top Dominican official ´irritates´ US Envoy in Haitian offspring row: El Caribe

Santo Domingo.- The US Embassyis pressing the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to solve "conveniently"the cases where the rights of citizens of Haitian ancestry are being allegedly violated,outlet elcaribe.com.do reports, citing “irrefutable sources.”

It said US ambassadorJames Brewster has been calling for "meetings" with JCE presidentRoberto Rosario, to discuss the issue, which has eve led to “irritation.”

The diplomat has recentlyvisited the JCE were Brewster was received by Rosario, who had provided"all the required information."

Local media hadreported that the US envoy was satisfied with the preparation leading to theelections next May, but not of any problems regarding citizens of Haitianorigin.

Again quoting sources,the outlet says Brewster would be pressing for a meeting these days, “butapparently the president of the JCE has a ´busy´ agenda and didn’t respond intime or with the expediency which the United States embassy required, andthere´s scuttlebutt that there has been "irritation."
