US Embassy in Dominican Republic hosts reception for Washington lawmakers

Santo Domingo.- US Ambassador James W. Brewster on Friday hosted a reception in honor of the US House of Representatives delegation headed by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, upon concluding an official two-day visit in the Dominican Republic.

During its first visit to the country, the high-level delegation of nine members of the Democratic Party, were received by president Danilo Medina and cabinet officials at the National Palace. They also visited the Foreign Affairs Ministry, where they met with Foreign Affairs minister Andrés Navarro.

On Friday the delegation also made a courtesy visit to the Chamber of Deputies, where they held meetings with Chamber of Deputies resident Abel Martinez and other senior lawmakers.

The delegation, which recently arrived in the country from Cuba, included representative Eliot Rangel, of the International Relations and Energy and Commerce committees; Rosa DeLauro, Allocations Committee, Collin Peterson of the Agriculture Committee, Anna Eshoo, of the Energy and Finance committees, Nydia Velasquez, Small Business and Financial Services, Jim McGovern, of the Agriculture Committee, Steve Israel, of the Contracts Committee and David Cicilline, of the Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Committee.

The US Congress members also had the opportunity to tour the Colonial Zone and its historic landmarks on Friday, and shared moments with youngsters at risk in one of the centers sponsored by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) located in the area of ??Gualey.
