Medina warns private insurers to pay treatments at rebuilt hospital

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Monday warned private insurers to cover costs incurred by patients treated at Dario Contreras Hospital, noting that everything can’t be left to the State-run health service, SENASA.

The president’s surprising warning came at ribbon cutting for the rebuilt hospital, which he affirms is completely new.

He said there’s not one private or public medical center in the country which surpasses the Dario Contreras Hospital, for which the Health Risk Administrators must pay for the service to policyholders there. "How is it possible that the State transfers such a large amount of funds to SENASA and patients come to hospitals like this and receive a service totally free, because they don’t want to recognize public hospitals as health centers?"

Medina instructed the Health Ministry and Dario Contreras officials to make sure to charge for its services to all policyholders who visit with insurance cards.
