Return of ‘most violent’ member of kingpin’s ring surprises authorities

Santo Domingo.- A man considered among the most dangerous former members of the ring headed by convicted drug trafficker Quirino Paulino, sentenced to 10 years in prison in the US and who returned to the country just days ago, is back in the national spotlight, arrested by antinarcotics agents in connection with cocaine headed to Holland hidden under pineapples.

Carlos Alberto Villavizar Guzman was recently arrested and charged in connection with a ring which smuggles drugs to Europe and the United States.

Local authorities were surprised to learn that Villavizar was back in the country and again trafficking drugs because the US hadn’t notified the DNCD that he was deported after serving a sentence since 2009, when he pleaded guilty to drug trafficking along with 14 others in the network headed by Paulino, who had been also been extradited.

Most violent

Villavisar, arrested in June 2005 and extradited to the US that same month, is considered one of the most violent members of Paulino’s network.
