Dominican Republic’s 3-term ex president poised to run again

Santo Domingo.- Former president Leonel Fernandez met Wednesday with 56 deputies of Dominican Republic’s ruling party (PLD), who asked him to again run for the presidency in the May 2016 election.

Fernandez is slated to meet today with members of the PLD’s Central Committee who support him, estimated at around 300 by organizers, aimed at continuing to coordinate his possible political campaign.

Yesterday’s meeting was held behind closed doors in Fernandez’s political office in Gascue, National District, also the site for today’s meeting at 11am.

The former president, who’s held office three times -1996-2000, 2004-2008 and 2008-2012- has yet to announce another bid despite intense politicking by some of his closest collaborators across the country.
