Dominican Republic denies military planes flew over Haiti airspace

Santo Domingo.- Just hours after attack planes and helicopters conducted flights along the border early Friday, Dominican Republic’s Defense chief denied however that the military aircraft flew over Haiti airspace.

Lt. Gen. William M. Delgado said the Super Tucano attack planes flew only within an authorized zone, and called reports to the contrary “false.”

In a statement, the official said only one helicopter flew over the area and only when tension flared at the Dominican consulate in the Haiti town, Ouanaminthe.

Delgado said everything is normal along the border and the authorities maintain strict control to deal with any incident. “At present there‘s no situation which justifies the use of these aircraft, which are used to pursue drug trafficking.”
