Francisco Javier Garcia would support Medina’s reelection

Santo Domingo. – The presidential candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) Francisco Javier Garcia was said to have offered his support to the project that promotes the reelection of President Danilo Medina, with the alleged purpose of curbing the aspirations of former head of state Leonel Fernandez.

According to sources close to Francisco Javier, the decision was made last Sunday following the recommendation from his closest collaborators.

Francisco Javier’s team believes that if the President is not eligible for reelection and instead Fernandez is proclaimed the PLD presidential candidate, Medina would easily go back to power in 2020.

In recent weeks the movement for reelection has taken great momentum in various parts of the country, supported by recent polls that give Medina a high popularity and favor amending the Constitution to allow him to opt for a new period.
