Several arrested on death of a MINUSTAH member

Dajabon, DR.– United Nations mission agents and the Haitian National Police announced they jointly arrested several individuals in the investigation into the shooting death of a UN soldier in in Gilea, between the towns of Ouanaminthe and Cap Haitien.

According to Diario Libre, the arrests, whose number is unknown, were made with searches in homes in the neighborhood where the shooting took place, and in the main public squares of Ouanaminthe, Fort Liberte and Gilea

Chilean sergeant Segundo Rodriguez Sanhueza had arrived on the scene of the demonstration on Monday to calm the protest, but encountered gunfire and died of a bullet when the demonstrations turned violent. He was a member of the Chilean battalion for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
