Dominicans start yearly exodus for Easter

SantoDomingo.– Since the annual exodus of Easter holiday makers leaving the Dominican capital began Wednesday afternoon, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) is ready to start OperationEaster 2015 at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 2.

According to COE director Juan Manuel Mendez, this year there will be 2,512 first aid stations with 130 ambulances, six mobile hospital, 10 clinics, 30 Omsa buses and nine regional command centers.

Mendez also referred to the participationof 41,050 mostly volunteers, who’ll be scattered throughout thehighways, beaches, rivers and lakes, to prevent accidents and provide safety for the peoplewho head to the interior.

As part of the security measures the Public Works Ministry’s Land Transport Dept. announced the ban of heavy vehicles on all roads starting 12 pm Thursday, April 2, to 6 am Monday, April 5.
