DEA fugitive apprehended in Dominican Republic returns to US

Santo Domingo.– A Drug Enforcement Agency fugitive returned to Midland, Texas after being apprehended six months ago in Jarabacoa, central La Vega province, in Dominican Republic.

Raymundo Jose Piña, 50, arrived in Midland in the custody of U.S. Marshals, the Drug Enforcement Agency said in a press release.

According to the report, Piña had been detained in November 2014 in the Dominican Republic on DEA charges filed in the Western District of Texas in 2008 for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and conspiracy to smuggle bulk currency.

Piña’s delay back to the United States had to do with a health issue.
